Two very different groups of shrimp share this aisle
Most of the shrimp here are Sulawesi shrimp, lake Caridina that need warm, alkaline, mineral-stable water and a mature tank. The rest are Neocaridina shrimp such as Blue Dream, which are often a good first shrimp in a stable, cycled aquarium. The two groups want different water, so pick the group before you pick a color.
Match your water to the group
- Sulawesi shrimp do best at 79-86°F (26-30°C), pH 7.5-8.5, GH 4-8 dGH, KH 3-6 dKH and TDS 150-250 ppm.
- Neocaridina shrimp do best at 65-78°F (18-26°C), pH 6.5-8.0, GH 6-12 dGH, KH 2-8 dKH and TDS 150-300 ppm.
The typical temperature ranges don't overlap, so a breeding Neocaridina colony doesn't belong in a Sulawesi tank. Each product page lists the targets for that line.
Check these before you order
- Test pH, KH, GH and TDS on water from the tank itself, not from a mineral label.
- Make sure the tank's cycled and has biofilm growing on rock and glass before shrimp arrive.
- Keeping fish? Most will eat shrimplets, peaceful ones included.
- Check your country's import rules for live animals before you buy.
