Sulawesi Orange Eyes Blue Sky

The Orange Eyes Blue Sky is a blue color line of Caridina dennerli, the Lake Matano species behind White Sock and Blue Ghost. It’s bred in our Sulawesi shrimp tanks, and it needs warm, alkaline, mineral-prepared water from the day it arrives.

What arrives when you order an Orange Eyes Blue Sky

A sky-blue body, porcelain-white front legs and orange eyes with a small dark center. Most shrimp in this line also carry patches of wine red or brown over the head and the first abdominal segments, so a marbled shrimp is normal and not a fault. Color varies between individuals and keeps shifting as a shrimp matures, so we don’t sell against a grade and we won’t promise you the exact pattern in a photo. Every shrimp we ship is tank-bred by Shrimp Aquatics, not collected from the wild.

Blue Ghost, White Sock, Galaxy and Oiran are the same species under different color selections, so they want the same water as this one: the difference between these types of Sulawesi shrimp is color, not care.

The water these Sulawesi shrimp need before you order

This is the part that decides whether the order’s a good idea. These are lake animals with a narrow band, and the numbers below are the range we keep to for every Sulawesi line we sell.

At Shrimp Aquatics, most of our Sulawesi systems currently run at TDS 150 ppm, GH 6-7 dGH and pH 7.5. If your tank sits higher in the band, that’s workable, but close the gap over weeks before the shrimp travel, not on the day they land.

Is your tank mature enough for a Sulawesi colony?

These are advanced to expert shrimp, and the usual reason they die is a tank that was cycled but not yet mature. Run through this honestly before you add them to your cart.

• Ammonia and nitrite both read 0 on a test kit you trust.
• Rock and glass carry visible biofilm and algae the shrimp can graze on day one.
• Temperature holds inside the band without swinging when the room cools at night.
• Hardscape and substrate are inert, so nothing is quietly moving your pH or KH.
• Filtration is gentle at shrimp level but keeps oxygen high in warm water.
• A tank set up last month, or one whose numbers you’re still adjusting, isn’t ready yet.

If two of those are missing, buy the test kit, the mineral and the rock now and order the shrimp a month later. Waiting costs you nothing.

Which tankmates suit an Orange Eyes Blue Sky tank

Other lake species from the same water, including the rest of our Sulawesi shrimp lines and Sulawesi rabbit snails, can share the tank as long as the grazing surface and filtration keep up with the extra mouths. Keeping one color line per tank is the usual rule if you want that line to stay recognizable.

Fish are the honest no. Even a peaceful species that ignores adults will take shrimplets, and very few fish belong in water this warm and alkaline anyway. We’d run this tank without them.

Arrival day and the first week in a Sulawesi tank

Follow the instructions packed with your order, because transit time and packing change what’s right. As a rule we equalize temperature with the bag still sealed, then transfer the shrimp across without letting transport water into your aquarium. Keep the lights low, leave them alone and skip feeding on day one.

After that, the tank feeds them. Mature biofilm and algae do most of the work, so prepared food is occasional rather than daily, offered in a small amount and lifted out once the shrimp have finished with it. Warm alkaline water is unforgiving of leftovers, and underfeeding is the safer mistake here.
