The Rigget Rabbit Snail (Tylomelania sp.) suits you if you already run a mature, warm, alkaline Sulawesi tank with a visible film on the rock and glass. It’s a large, slow grazer with a rough, textured shell. The snail itself is moderate to keep. The water is the demanding part, so it isn’t a way into Sulawesi keeping and it isn’t a beginner’s snail.
What you get with a Rigget Rabbit Snail from Shrimp Aquatics
You get a rabbit snail bred by Shrimp Aquatics, not collected from the wild. We sell it as Tylomelania sp. and don’t attach a species name to it, because no species identity has been confirmed for this line. “Rigget” is a trade name for the look of the shell, not a species.
Rabbit snails are live-bearers, and the young are born already shelled. We don’t promise breeding, sex or the number of young from any order.
Water to hold steady before a Rigget Rabbit Snail arrives
Keep it in the same water as Sulawesi shrimp. These are the numbers we keep to for every Sulawesi rabbit snail we sell:

Test before you order
Measure temperature, pH, GH, KH and TDS in your own tank first. If any of them sits outside the table, fix and hold it before the snail ships. An active, pH-lowering soil is the wrong substrate for this tank.
Is your Sulawesi tank mature enough for a Rigget?
It’s ready when all of these are true:
- Ammonia and nitrite read 0 and the filter is established.
- A visible film of algae and biofilm covers the rock and glass.
- Temperature and chemistry have held steady inside the table above.
- The film can feed your shrimp and this snail too. A snail this size counts toward the grazing load.
- No copper, and no medication or fertilizer that contains it.
Planning more than one? Work out your rabbit snail tank size and hardscape first, because extra rock adds grazing surface but not floor space or water.
Rough shell or shell damage on a Rigget Rabbit Snail?
A worn or scarred shell tip on an adult is normal in this genus, so don’t panic over a pale, eroded apex. What matters is the growing edge at the shell opening. Fresh erosion there is a reason to test pH, KH and GH straight away and to stop KH from drifting.
What can share a tank with a Rigget Rabbit Snail?
Sulawesi shrimp, yes. They share the same water and the same grazing surface, so the only limit is whether the film can feed both. Neocaridina, no: their temperature range doesn’t meet this tank at any point. Bee and Crystal Caridina need different water altogether. Never add an assassin snail.
Don’t buy it as an algae eater. Grazing the film on hard surfaces is what it does, and filamentous green algae aren’t a natural food for it, according to Sulawesi Keepers. Would it eat your plants? Nobody has recorded rabbit snails eating living plants, or leaving them alone, so treat soft-leaved plants as at risk and favor hardy epiphytes tied to rock.
Feeding and arrival day for your Rigget Rabbit Snail
A mature film does most of the feeding. Prepared food can top it up, but it can’t make up for a young tank, so lift anything uneaten within a few hours. On arrival, follow the instructions supplied with your order and don’t pour the shipping water into your tank. A new snail may stay shut in its shell for a while before it starts moving.
